The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council normally conducts its own local moon sighting through its Directorate of Sharia, as it did for the March 1, 2025 start. For 2026, however, UMSC's Sharia office tied Uganda's official start explicitly to the crescent having been sighted in Saudi Arabia, announcing fasting would begin the next day, February 18, 2026, so the approach has varied by year.
