For French-speaking Muslims, Mawaqit is the strongest app because it carries your own mosque's prayer timetable at no cost, and Niyat is the one to add if you want cited answers and a Qur'an reader in French in the same app.
Short answer: Install Mawaqit. It is free, it has no ads, and it carries your mosque's own timetable rather than a calculation. Then add one more app for whatever Mawaqit does not do, which is the Qur'an, duas and questions. Everything below was checked against the French App Store on 14 September 2026.
We build Niyat. The app we tell you to install first is not ours, and it costs nothing.
Every other app in this article calculates prayer times from your position and a convention. That gives you the window. It does not give you the moment your mosque actually prays, and in France, where the mosque is often the centre of community life, that gap matters more than a few minutes of arithmetic.
Mawaqit works the other way round. Mosques publish their own timetables into it, so the app shows you the times your imam set, plus announcements and events from the mosques you follow. Its listing says it is the most-used app by mosques worldwide and covers more than 100 countries. In France it holds 4.8 stars from 234,834 ratings, which is more than any other app here by a wide margin.
The network is densest in France. In Montreal, Brussels or Dakar, check whether your mosque is on it before you rely on it.
| App | Best for | Languages | French App Store rating | Price |

Released in May 2019, 4.8 stars from 234,834 French ratings, no ads, no in-app purchases listed. It gives you the prayer times your imam set, adhan notifications, and messages from the mosques you follow. It lists 13 languages including French, Arabic, Urdu, Bengali, Turkish and Indonesian.
Where it stops: it is a mosque and prayer-times app. No Qur'an reader with khatm tracking, no dua library, no question-answering.
Muslim Pro holds 4.6 stars from 556,773 French ratings, more than twice the count of anything else in this article. It lists 22 languages and covers prayer times, Qur'an, adhan and qibla. Its page lists a monthly subscription at $3.99, yearly tiers at $29.99 and $34.99, and ad removal at $14.99.
Where it stops: ads on the free tier, and calculated times rather than your mosque's.
Athan Pro from Quanticapps holds 4.6 stars from 78,759 French ratings and has been on the store since 2014. Its listing covers adhan, an augmented-reality qibla, the Qur'an, tasbeeh and the Islamic calendar in 13 languages.
Muslim App holds 4.7 stars from 50,209 French ratings and lists 19 languages. Its own listing claims more than 70 million users. Prayer times, qibla, Qur'an and daily adhkar on a free ad-supported tier.
Just Pray holds 4.8 stars from 2,399 French ratings, and lists French among ten languages. Its listing describes step-by-step illustrated guides to wudu, ghusl and all five prayers with audio and translation, a Garden of Deeds tracker, and a Fajr alarm you dismiss by scanning a real object. It has a free tier plus Pro tiers from $5.99 monthly or $29.99 yearly.
If the honest problem is that you are not praying rather than that you do not know the time, this is the app for that.
Niyat ships a French interface alongside English, Arabic, Bengali and Urdu. Its Q&A draws on more than 11,786 texts including the Qur'an, Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim and classical fiqh, covers the Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali schools, and cites what it used. Around it sit a full Qur'an reader with khatm goal tracking, Listen mode with word-by-word highlighting, a dua library, prayer times, qibla, a tasbih counter and Prayer Lock.
The honest trade-off: $5.99 a month on iPhone, $4.99 on Android, or $34.99 a year on either after a trial, with no permanent free tier. Mawaqit already covers prayer times better than any paid app can, so Niyat is worth it only for the reading, the duas and the answers.
If you pray at a mosque that publishes to Mawaqit and you read the Qur'an on paper, you are done. Mawaqit gives you the times your community actually uses, costs nothing, shows no ads and asks for no subscription. There is no version of this article where we tell you to replace it. An additional app makes sense when you want to read, look up a dua, or ask a question and see where the answer came from.

Mawaqit, for prayer times. It holds 4.8 stars from 234,834 French App Store ratings, lists no in-app purchases, and its listing describes it as free and ad-free, carrying the times set by participating mosques in more than 100 countries. For a Qur'an reader, duas and sourced answers in French, add a second app, because Mawaqit does not cover those.
Mawaqit, Muslim Pro, Athan Pro, Muslim App, Just Pray and Niyat all list French. Mawaqit lists 13 languages, Muslim Pro lists 22, Just Pray lists 10, and Niyat lists English, Arabic, Bengali, Urdu and French. Most Islamic AI apps do not: MuslimGPT, SheikhGPT and Deen Buddy list English only.
Yes. Its App Store page lists no in-app purchases as of 14 September 2026, and its own listing describes the app as gratuite et sans publicite, meaning free and without advertising. It is funded as a mosque network rather than a consumer subscription. That is unusual in this category and it is worth saying plainly.
Because a calculated time and a jamaat time are different things. A general app computes the window from your GPS position and a chosen convention. A French mosque sets its congregation time by its own decision. Mawaqit solves this specific problem by publishing the mosque's own timetable inside the app, which is why it dominates in France.
Niyat ships a French interface and answers with citations back to the Qur'an, the hadith collections and classical fiqh, covering the four Sunni schools. Qaf lists French among 14 languages. Qalam lists French among 35. The best-known Islamic AI apps, including MuslimGPT, SheikhGPT, Deen Buddy and Ilmverse, list English only.
A French interface, cited answers across the four schools, a full Qur'an with khatm tracking, duas and prayer times. No ads at any tier.
